About the two upcoming Fuji cameras teased for 2025

Here are some rumors on the two upcoming Fujifilm cameras for 2025 that were teased during the last X Summit:

  • The larger one on the left under the white cloth (white like the GFX boxes) should be a GFX camera, possibly the fixed-lens GFX camera rumored to be coming in the first half of 2025.
  • The smaller one on the right under the black cloth (black like the X-series boxes) should be an X camera, possibly the so-called "half-frame" camera with a 1-inch portrait-oriented sensor (thanks Mistral75)

“But wait, there’s one more thing”: Fujifilm is teasing two new cameras for next year

During today's Fujifilm X Summit 2024, Yuji Igarashi (General Manager of Fujifilm Electronic Imaging Division) attempted the famous Steve Jobs “one more thing" bit, but he did not reveal anything new - he just informed us that Fujifilm has two more new cameras coming:

"But wait, there's one more thing"

"We are currently developing new cameras"

"Although the timing is yet to be determined"

"We hope to bring you exciting news next year"

Here is a video for Yuji Igarashi so he can learn how it's done - maybe next time, he will actually announce something instead of telling us the obvious. We all know that new Fuji cameras are coming. A small teaser would have been better - such a wasted opportunity.

Fujifilm full-frame camera rumors: clickbait or reality

Are the Fujifilm full-frame camera rumors clickbait or reality? FujiAddict has an answer:

Fujifilm “finally” releasing a full-frame camera is floated every couple of years for clicks since a portion of photographers believe that full frame is the best thing since sliced bread, but Fujifilm always strongly denies these rumors. In fact only a few years ago, Fujifilm said, “Full Frame Will Never Happen So Stop Asking!“, which is understandable since the introduction of the GFX.

A far more interesting move by Fujifilm would be to bring back Super CCD EXR technology with X-Trans for the X and GFX cameras since the technology is known for its high resolution, high sensitivity, and high dynamic range. Rotating the pixels of an X-Trans sensor 45 degrees would allow for the doubling of resolution, sensitivity, and dynamic range so Fujifilm’s 40-megapixel sensor would deliver 80 megapixels with a dynamic range better than the Fujifilm GFX. If applied to the GFX it would allow Fujifilm to completely surpass companies like PhaseOne.

Sensor size isn’t everything and Fujifilm could pay Sony, Samsung, or someone else to manufacture a Super CCD EXR X-Trans sensor, but it would represent a substantial investment by Fujifilm to become a reality, but at least it would be something new instead of copying what others are doing. Fujifilm has always done its own thing in photography and I hope that continues for a long time to come.
