Sony Addict reported some new Sony a7R VI camera rumored specifications:

  • Sony’s A7R VI is set to be released before November 2026, right before the Alpha 7S series
  • The Alpha 7R VI is currently undergoing testing on a small scale
  • BIONZ XR2 processor with 8.5 stops of image stabilization
  • 30fps 14-bit RAW continuous shooting
  • RAW pre-capture
  • 60fps AE/AF
  • 16-frame high-resolution composite shooting
  • Up to 32-frame noise-reduced composite shooting
  • The grip has been redesigned to adopt the deeper handle found on the A1 II.
  • The screen’s maximum brightness is 50% higher than the A1 II.
  • The A7R VI uses a full-stacked sensor with 80M effective pixels
  • It’s seen as a big step up from the A7 V, and it’s in a similar position to the A7R III and A7 III at the time
  • No open gate, no RAW video, no 6K HEVC, it supports full-frame 10.9K oversampled 8K30p, APS-C 7.1K oversampled 4K60p, and full-frame 5.5K (pixel-binning) oversampled 4K120p video
  • For stills, it can take 30 fps, but there’s a hard limit on the number of frames.
  • The dynamic range is still better than the A7R V in mechanical shutter mode when using the electronic shutter, and it reaches 16+ stops when mechanical shutter is enabled.
  • The number of pixels on the screen is higher than the A7 V, but the electronic shutter speed is slightly faster. However, the electronic shutter speed is still only a third of the A1 II.
  • 67-megapixel partially stacked image sensor
  • 60fps readout rate
  • 10K/30p, 8K 60p, and 4K 120p video recording
  • High-speed autofocus
  • Enhanced ultra-high-speed dynamic range
  • Third parties will be able to buy the sensor

Due to the global shortage of semiconductors (memory) and other factors, it is anticipated that supply will not be able to meet demand for CFexpress memory cards and SD memory cards for the foreseeable future. Therefore, we have decided to temporarily suspend the acceptance of orders from our authorized dealers and from customers at the Sony Store from March 27, 2026 onwards (source)

Sony announced the expansion of its Camera Authenticity Solution, which now supports video in addition to still images

Sony announced the expansion of its Camera Authenticity Solution, which now supports video in addition to still images (previously reported here). The update adds video compatibility to Camera Verify (beta) and the Image Verification Pre-check SDK, helping news organizations and visual journalists verify the provenance and authenticity of captured content.

Highlights of the announcement:

  • Camera Verify (beta) now supports video – allowing newsrooms to validate both still images and video through a dedicated verification URL.
  • C2PA-compliant verification – confirms content was captured by a camera using secure digital signatures aligned with the C2PA standard.
  • Integrated workflow support – the Image Verification Pre-check SDK enables organizations to check for camera signatures directly within their own systems.
  • Supported cameras – includes Alpha 1 II, Alpha 1, Alpha 9 III, Alpha 7R V, Alpha 7S III, Alpha 7 IV, FX3, FX30, and PXW-Z300, with additional compatibility planned.

Sony Pulls Back From PlayStation Games on PC

Sony is reportedly abandoning its recent push to bring major PlayStation games to PC and will instead keep most single-player titles exclusive to the PlayStation 5. According to Bloomberg, the shift back toward console exclusivity may be driven by weaker PC sales and concerns about diluting the PlayStation brand. From the report: Online games such as Marathon and Marvel Tokon will still be released across multiple platforms, but single-player titles such as last year's samurai hit Ghost of Yotei and the upcoming action game Saros will remain exclusive to PlayStation 5, said the people, who asked not to be identified because they weren't authorized to talk publicly about the company's strategy. The people cautioned that things could change in the future due to the unpredictable nature of the video-game industry and that Sony's plans are constantly shifting. But in recent weeks PlayStation scrapped plans to bring Ghost of Yotei and other internally developed games to PC. Two games made by external developers but published by PlayStation, Death Stranding 2 and the upcoming Kena: Scars of Kosmora, are still planned for release on PC this year.
