Just announced: IDSworks grip for the new Fuji X100VI camera

Par : PR admin
19 avril 2024 à 00:03

IDS Works (Initial Design Studio) is a very popular third-party accessories manufacturer for Leica cameras (see their products here). For the first time, they decided to create an accessory for a camera different than Leica - meet the new IDSworks grip for the new Fuji X100VI:

Six different grip pad options are available to order - see the order page configuration tool. The grip comes with internal SD card storage and has no blockage to the battery access door:

IDS grip for Fuji X100VI camera features:

Introducing our latest addition to the Fuji camera lineup, the X100VI, designed with the same precision and quality as our renowned Leica M and Q series cameras.

We have not implement similar curved opening at the bottom to cut down machine time by half and use a rather common straight opening approach to cut CNC time and reduce cost.

X100VI is a little bit too short causing small finger have no place to grip for many with an average size hand. We decided to increase the height just a little for better grip and maintain a visual proportion between the top and bottom part. We have also include a strap anchor on the grip side for those who prefer attaching a Peak Design strap anchor. The position of the grip pad is placed in a position where your middle finger can easily access the front dial yet not be able to accidently trigger it.

Note: we have a full introduction on why our grip pad shape is unique and how to hold it properly in the "design concept --> back to the basic" section. Please do read it or watch that video, as many did not realize it is very different from holding other similar products. There are some useful tips as well.

Redefining perfect fit

Our grip base design for this camera has a perfect fit after many mockup. We surrounded the bottom of the camera at a height of 1.5mm with inner curvature that wraps the bottom rim perfectly and it sit flush with the camera fully.

Aside from cosmetic concerns, this grip is also add functions by providing

1. On grip ARCA dove tail for quick tripod mounting

2. Inner vertical metal support with vertical sunk in structure grip pad mounting rods providing rigidity. Grip pads only provides comfort with no stress on carry the load of the camera.

3. Internal spare SD card storage

4. grip side wrist strap lugs

5. Battery door access

6. No audio blockage

Base Plate Selection

There are two base colors (Silver and black) to match with the camera body and 6 different grip pad selections for your preference.

During our development, we perfected our anodizing process to achieve this matte finish by carefully selecting materials, controlling temperatures, and using specific chemical mix in production. The result is a finish that resembles the iconic look of a modern Leica M camera finish. Our anodizing factory charge us by sets, unlike other that charges on total kilogram of products to be anodized.

Grip pad selections

To match your style we have the following 6 grip pad for your selection

Bottom Left: Glass fiber composite (G10)

This is a new material we created for two purpose. Many customers likes black but before we only have African black wood and black aluminum. Some found wood rather “old school" and forced to select black matt aluminum but aluminum grip pad is heavy (25g) so we have now this Fiber glass composite for your selection at only 11 grams. It is light, sturdy and have a grid patten on it. This material is commonly use on knife handles.

Top Left: Walnut  (5g)

This wood is very light (5g) but it is indeed softer because of its density.

Top Middle: Desert iron wood from Africa (11g)

This wood has better color then Walnut and almost the same density as the African black wood.

Bottom Middle: African Black wood (11g)

This wood has a high density and also beautiful wood grain.

Top Right: Metallic gray aluminum (25g)

Milled on 3 axial CNC and anodized with a metallic gray finish

Bottom right: black aluminum (25g)

Milled on 3 axial CNC and anodized with a matt black finish

The weight of the bottom plate + supporting aluminum rod + aluminum screw with same bottom plate finish (47g)

Fujifilm files patent infringement lawsuit against Kodak for processless lithographic printing plate products:

Fujifilm Files Patent Infringement Lawsuit Against Eastman Kodak Company

March 20, 2024

Hanover Park, Ill. – FUJIFILM North America Corporation, Graphic Communication Division today announced that FUJIFILM Corporation filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Eastman Kodak Company (NYSE: KODK) in the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey.

Fujifilm has asserted four patents (U.S. Patent Nos. 10,427,443, 10,525,696, 10,875,346, and 11,294,279) pertaining to various aspects of processless lithographic printing plate technologies, including method and apparatus claims.

Fujifilm is seeking remedies including damages and injunctive relief related to Eastman Kodak’s unauthorized commercial manufacture, use, offer to sell, or sale within the United States, and/or importation of its processless lithographic printing plate products that infringe the four asserted patents, including those sold under the product name “SONORA X” and the brand umbrella name “SONORA XTRA”.

“Fujifilm is committed to protecting its significant research and development investments, and in bringing innovative printing plate technologies to customers around the world,” commented Toyoyuki “Tommy” Katagiri, division president, FUJIFILM North America Corporation, Graphic Communication Division. “We will enforce and protect our innovation and intellectual property rights in the United States and around the world when we believe others infringe unfairly.”

Separately in October 2023 and December 2023 respectively, Eastman Kodak’s European subsidiaries, Kodak GmbH, Kodak Graphic Communications GmbH, and Kodak Holding GmbH, were sued by FUJIFILM Corporation for infringement of the related European counterparts of the US patents-in-suit in the Unified Patent Court and in Germany.

“We will continue to protect our intellectual property in processless lithographic printing plates, to the benefit of our customers, including small, family-owned printing businesses, as well as medium- and large-sized printing businesses,” added Katagiri.

The Fuji X100VI madness continues… “the most pre-ordered camera ever”

→ Fujifilm will sell only 300 limited-edition X100VI cameras in the US and if you are lucky you can get one on this page (first come, first serve basis, from March 21 through March 23). On eBay, the limited edition X100VI camera currently sells for over $4,000.

→ Check out the new Fuji X100VI accessories from SmallRig at Adorama, B&H Photo, and the official SmallRig website (international shipping available).

Various Fuji X1000VI camera skins can be found here.

→ Amazon lists limited options to buy the Fuji X100VI camera for $2,400. The eBay prices are slightly lower.

→ Our sponsor Service Photo reports that the Fuji X1000VI camera is the most pre-ordered camera ever...

→ The Fujifilm X100VI Zagato edition is obviously fake (update: it's a camera skin) - made after the Leica M10 Edition Zagato camera. As much as I like the X100 camera, Fuji will never be cool enough to get their own Zagato edition. Never ever!

Fujifilm interviews

Par : PR admin
14 mars 2024 à 19:09

Phototrend published two new interviews with Fujifilm representatives from CP+ 2024. Here are the recaps by FujiAddict:

Fujifilm X Interview Summary

  • The Fujifilm X-Pro series hasn’t been discontinued but they can’t say when we will see Fujifilm X-Pro4.
  • X-T and X100 cameras are not enough for Fujifilm’s pure photography audience.
  • Fujifilm has a lot of expectations for the X-Pro4
  • Fujifilm X-E isn’t discontinued either, but they can’t speak about the Fujifilm X-E5 yet.
  • Sports photography is a tough market that Fujifilm has just started trying to break into, but feedback has been positive.
  • Fujifilm has announced the development of second-generation lenses like the XF16-50mm f/2.8-4.8 and Fujifilm will continue to strengthen its lineup.
  • Fujifilm isn’t considering Bayer sensors because X-Trans has unique advantages suppressing moire and chromatic aberrations.
  • Photographers wanted IBIS and REALA ACE for the X100VI and Fujifilm made it happen
  • The IBIS in the X100VI is the smallest and thinnest IBIS unit yet
  • The IBIS in the X100VI is 6mm thinner than the X-T5
  • Fujifilm uses image data to improve IBIS like live view that improves the precision of stabilization
  • Fujifilm considers the X100 design to be the perfect template so they don’t see a point in changing much, but they did increase the grip size a little for better grip.
  • The Fujifilm X100VI has AF equal to the best 5th-generation Fujifilm cameras.
  • Fujifilm released a limited edition X100VI to celebrate its 90th anniversary and it has nothing to do with how popular and collectable the X100V became.
  • Fujifilm doesn’t want to over do their limited edition products but maybe for the 100th anniversary, they will do another.

Fujifilm GFX / Wildlife Sports Interview Summary

  • Fujifilm is satisfied with the launch of the Fujifilm GFX100II because both professional photographers and filmmakers have adopted it.
  • The GFX100 II from a sales standpoint exceeded Fujifilm’s expectations.
  • The Fujifilm GFX100S also remains very popular since its price has been lowered.
  • Fujifilm has never calculated its market share of medium format, but they quickly became the standard so they guess they are number one.
  • Since APS-C and Full Frame are now around 40-60MP Fujifilm is focusing on 100-megapixel medium format sensors.
  • Camera ergonomics are very important to Fujifilm and they feel the switch from a shutter speed dial to a camera dial was a positive one.
  • Fujifilm believes it is time for the GFX to take on wildlife and sports, which is why they announced the GF500mm f/5.6.
  • Smaller sensors allow for more compact telephoto designs, but they are pretty much the same design on medium format, especially the front element so why not?
  • The GF 500mm f/5.6 will be a large lens, but the AF elements will be as compact as possible.
  • The most difficult lens to design for GFX is tilt-shift because the image circle is huge so it took them more than 4 years to design.
  • Fujifilm thinks PSAM dials are faster for photographers even though vintage dial-based cameras are coming back in a big way.
  • Hybrid users also seem to prefer PSAM

  • The new Vignette Switch on the lens housing can be used to add an artistic shaded frame around the image subject for a softened effect. Additionally, a self-timer is at hand to help create the perfect group image, and MINI 99’s flash controls include auto mode, fill-in (flash will always fire regardless of lighting), red-eye removal, or the option to turn the flash off, depending on the user’s lighting situation.
  • The camera’s Landscape, Normal/Portrait, and Macro Focus Modes are easily accessible by adjusting the lens dial. Landscape Mode focuses on subjects positioned at a distance reference of “3.0m and beyond”. Macro Mode is perfect for close-ups and selfies at a distance reference of “0.3m to 0.6m”. Users can select Standard Mode for everything in between.
  • Grip and Tripod Mount: To enhance grip in even the most active image-making situations, MINI 99 comes with a precision-milled, Base Grip with Tripod Mount that also acts as a grip when attached to the camera (tripod sold separately).

Don’t expect the Fujifilm X100VI camera to be in stock anytime soon

Many (all?) companies got into the habit of announcing product shortages "becuase of high demand". For the most part, I consider this to be a marketing strategy, but in the case of the new Fujifilm X100VI camera, I believe the hype is real after getting some feedback from retailers - the X100VI demand is very high and it exceeded all expectations. Today FujiFilm Japan issued an official notice about it:

"Please note that since the announcement, we have received a far greater response than expected, so please note that it may take some time for the product to be delivered. We will do our best to increase production so that we can deliver the products as soon as possible. Thank you for your understanding."

Due to the high demand, the new Fujifilm X100VI camera will be back ordered and out of stock for a very long time. Someone in China already thought of a solution - fake stickers that will turn your old X100 camera into an X100VI (or in this case into the new limited-edition X100VI). This will cause some serious problems later on when fake X100VI cameras start showing up on eBay. Btw, the current prices for an X100VI on eBay are over $2,000:

According to some store listings, the new X1000VI should start shipping tomorrow (February 28th):
